NEW TEACHER SUPPORT, OBSERVATION, MENTORING and DEVELOPMENT

INITIAL PEER MENTORING

The President and/or Dean assign prospective teachers to observe experienced teachers working with a variety of levels for two weeks prior to their teaching assignment. During this initial mentoring period, prospective teachers keep an Observation Log, answering key questions provided by the Dean. A meeting with the President and/or Dean at the end of the first week provides opportunity for discussion. A survey will be provided to both the experienced and prospective hires to evaluate their experience.

DEAN MENTORING and SUPERVISION

MONTH ONE and TWO: The new teacher will keep a Teaching Log, answering key questions provided by the Dean. Weekly email communication with the Dean, based on their Teaching Log, provides opportunities for discussion and troubleshooting. The Dean will be available by appointment.

At the end of MONTH TWO, MONTH SIX and ONE YEAR, a Pre-Observation, Observation and Post-Observation will be used. A Professional Development plan will also be discussed at the end of one year. The Dean will be available by appointment or through email.

In addition, a survey will be provided to the new teacher at the end of one year to evaluate their first year of mentoring and supervision.


EXPERIENCED TEACHERS


PEER MENTORING and DEAN SUPERVISION

During the spring Faculty Meeting, the Dean will provide a workshop on Peer Mentoring. At the meeting, the Dean will assign experienced teachers (one year plus teaching experience) to observe other experienced teachers.. Pre-observation and observation forms will be filled out and emailed to the Dean within a week after the observation. The Dean will meet with each experienced teacher late spring and summer to discuss their Peer Observations and create a Professional Development Plan. The Dean will be available to teachers by appointment or through email.

A survey will be provided at the end of the Peer Mentoring and Dean Supervision period to all teachers to evaluate their experience.
