Re:      New Additions to the Spanish-American Institute Library

Date:   November 23, 2011

The following have been added to the Spanish-American Institute Library:

NorthStar 1 DVD: This is the DVD that goes with the ESL 2 course using NorthStar Level 1 texts.

Essential Environment:  The Science Behind the Stories by J. Withgott and M. Laposta:   This recently published textbook isused in introductory college courses in Environmental Science.  It correlates nicely to several NorthStar units dealing with the environment.

Design for How People Learn by J. Dirksen:  This easy to read text talks about how people focus, learn, and remember.  It should be of interest to both teachers and to students.  It also correlates nicely to NorthStar units about education and College Success units about learning.

Revolutionary Characters:  What Made the Founders Different by G. Wood:  G. Wood is a respected historian who writes very readable books about the early years of American history.  Revolutionary Founders contains chapters on several of American’s Founders—those like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin who provided leadership in establishing the founding principles and practices of a new country.  It has separate chapters on each Founder.  Students using NorthStar units about  famous people may find it of particular interest.

Nart Sagas from the Caucasus:  Myths and Legends from the Circassians, Abazas, Abhaz, and Ubkhs and Circassian History:   Before she left, Olga Shukhova donated these books to the Spanish-American Institute.  Students using NorthStar units about how different cultures use myths, proverbs, and languages may want to look at these books.
