  • Student-Faculty On-going Student-Orientation Procedures and
  • Student-Faculty On-going Monthly Orientation Planner: A Foreign Student's Guide to Surrounding NYC Culture and Community

Included with this memo, please find:

  • Student-Faculty On-going Student-Orientation Procedures and
  • Student-Faculty On-going Monthly Orientation Planner: A Foreign Student's Guide to Surrounding NYC Culture and Community

Along with other techniques and strategies, the on-going use of these two documents assist the Institute in providing to all new students clear, complete:

  • pre-arrival,
  • initial arrival and
  • on-going orientation to the ESL-Plus course of Study and its policies.

This includes possible cross-cultural issues.  It helps students understand:

  • the process of entering the United states for purposes of study
  • how best to study, and
  • how to adjust to a foreign culture.

Out-of-country students will be emailed links to these two guides together with initial and subsequent information about the Institute.  This, together with telephonic, Skype and in person orientation of family or friends helps to assure each applicant receives understandable, and timely information on:

  • the visa application process and
  • planning for timely arrival as required by the ESL-Plus Course of Study.

School transfer and other in-country applicants will also have correct and comprehensible information regarding complying with immigration regulations on transfers and change of status.

Students email from the Institute includes a link (http://www.ice.gov/sevis/students/)

to information to the ICE website relating to compliance issues in:

·              Steps 1-3: Pre-Arrival

·              Steps 4-6: Arriving

·              Steps 7-9: While in the United States

·              Step 10: Departing
