practical introduction to using the Internet. The course emphasizes ways to find and
use information on the World Wide Web. Topics include understanding Internet
concepts and techniques, using browser tools, assessing and evaluating
information, finding and using information, and creating a Web page.

Week 6 Searching the Web: accessing automated library catalogs, exploring the Spanish-American Institute Library Catalog on-line, and doing the Spanish-American Institute Library "Basic Searching" and "Advanced" on-line tutorials
Week 7 Searching the Web: searching periodical databases; doing the Spanish-American Institute Library "Searching Periodical Databases" and "Developing Good Research Skills Using the Internet" on-line tutorials
Week 8 Using E-Mail: composing and sending messages; understanding e-mail addresses; working with e-mail folders; attaching files to messages; replying and forwarding; printing, sorting, and finding

Classes
will include some theory followed by extensive hands-on application. Each student will create a portfolio of
finished output, including a personal web page.
The
final grade will be based on the weekly average of grades for class
participation, assignments, and examinations.
